Job summary

Martin Marietta in Colorado Springs offers a 10-week Production Internship providing direct support to Asphalt and Paving operations. You will gain hands-on experience in production planning, estimating, quality control, safety, and field management through structured learning and project assignments.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and have a valid driver’s license. Prior internship is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Assist estimating personnel with cost estimates for asphalt paving, grading, and roadway projects.
• Review project plans, bid packages, specifications, and drawings to understand requirements.
• Gather pricing information for materials, equipment, labor, trucking, and subcontracted services.
• Support maintenance of estimating databases and historical cost records.
• Participate in bid preparation activities and estimate review meetings.
• Learn methods to evaluate project risks, production challenges, and profitability.
• Observe and support the bid submission process and competitive bidding practices.
• Gain exposure to daily asphalt plant operations, including production planning and inventory management.
• Assist operations personnel in monitoring production activities for efficiency and quality.
• Learn about asphalt mix designs, raw materials, aggregate processing, and production controls.
• Observe maintenance activities and equipment inspections for reliability.
• Participate in process-improvement opportunities and operational efficiency projects.
• Assist in tracking production metrics and performance indicators.
• Observe and support paving crews during project execution.
• Assist field personnel with project documentation, reporting, and daily tracking.
• Gain experience with equipment utilization, crew coordination, and jobsite logistics.
• Observe project scheduling and resource allocation processes.
• Participate in site visits to understand production methods and field operations.
• Participate in structured internship learning activities and training opportunities.
• Build relationships with leaders, estimators, engineers, project managers, and field personnel.
• Attend meetings, site visits, and reviews to broaden industry knowledge.
• Complete assigned projects and present findings to management as appropriate.
• Demonstrate initiative, curiosity, and willingness to learn new skills.
• Gain exposure to potential career paths within Martin Marietta's Operations, Estimating, Construction, Quality Control and Production.

Education

Bachelor’s degree focus in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Construction Management
