Job summary

Florida Blacktop Inc. seeks an experienced Asphalt Screed Operator / Lute Technician to join an active paving crew across South Florida. You will operate the screed, perform lute and rake work, and ensure proper asphalt placement, grade control, mat thickness, and surface quality.

The role requires cross-functional work with the paver, roller, truck drivers, and foreman, plus a readiness to shovel, clean up, and hand-finish as projects demand. FDOT certifications and MOT knowledge are preferred.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience on an asphalt paving crew.
• Operate the screed on an asphalt paver and perform lute work.
• Knowledge of grade-control systems, mat thickness, joints, and surface quality.
• Ability to read layout, perform grade calculations, and communicate with crew.

Responsibilities

• Operate the screed on a paver for roadway, parking lot, and patching projects.
• Set and adjust screed controls to maintain elevation, slope, width, and thickness.
• Use grade-control systems, sonic controls, levels, and references.
• Monitor asphalt flow, mat thickness, temperature, and paving consistency.
• Coordinate with paver operator, roller operator, truck drivers, and foreman.
• Perform shoveling, cleanup, and hand finishing as needed.
