Job summary

CRH in Franklinton, Louisiana is seeking an Asphalt Plant Operator to join the North Shore Asphalt team. The successful candidate will coordinate truck dispatching, maintain safe work conditions, and perform regular maintenance on equipment. Ideal candidates will have at least one year of experience in road or construction fields and possess excellent communication skills. Asphalt Plant Operator

We are currently searching for an experienced Asphalt Plant Operator to join our North Shore Asphalt team.

Duties & Responsibilities

Operations (50%)

• Coordinate and assign the dispatching of trucks in the yard.
• Communicate on multiple devices, including computer, phone, fax, hand-held, and CB radios.
• Read and interpret multiple types of meters and gauges to verify operating conditions.
• Write reports and maintain a logbook of asphalt production and maintenance actions during the shift.
• Keep the control room clean by performing housekeeping tasks.
• Maintain a safe environment for self and crew within plant confines.
• Assess daily job tasks for potential safety concerns.
• Communicate with vendors, trucks, operations, plant crew, and supervisor as needed.
• Safely and efficiently load trucks and process required tickets/paperwork.
• Create daily plant schedule based on mix needs, capacity, and tonnage.
• Collaborate with quality control technicians to ensure the produced asphalt meets required specifications, making adjustments as needed.
• Operate and maintain the asphalt plant and construction equipment, determining proper quantities of materials, adjusting controls, monitoring production levels, and ensuring product quality.
• Train and mentor new hires as needed.
• Troubleshoot, problem solve, and discuss production issues with co-workers and Plant Manager.

Plant and Equipment (30%)

• Inspect hand tools and equipment for defects and lock out if defective.
• Assist crew with plant or equipment maintenance or repairs at ground level or elevated.
• Perform general maintenance and cleanup on equipment and plant.
• Perform daily inspections, preventative maintenance, welding, and repairs on machinery.

Safety and Compliance (15%)

• Follow company policy, guidelines, and procedures.
• Wear proper PPE for required tasks.
• Lead TAR daily or change of scope.
• Perform Stretch and Flex daily.
• Picks up and places safety devices as needed.
• Certified in Lockout/Tagout and Confined Space.

Other Duties (5%)

Perform other duties as assigned.

Advanced

Proficient

• Use of computer, phone, smart phone, fax, hand-held, and CB radios.
• Reading, understanding two- to three-syllable words.
• Writing skills for reports.
• Process systems step-by-step.
• Basic mechanics, welding, and using tools.
• Basic mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division with tenths or hundredths).
• Minimum 1 year experience in road or construction field working outdoors.

Physical Requirements

• Work more than 40 hours a week, may include nights and weekends.
• Travel as required and work at different plant locations.
• Function and work in wet, dry, hot, and cold environments.
• Lift, carry, push or pull 50 lbs. short distances.
• Stand and walk for extended periods.
• Climb up and down ladders.
• Work at heights up to 60 ft and in confined spaces.
