Job summary

Tri State Paving in Hurricane, WV is seeking a construction laborer to perform general labor on paving projects. You will help with material handling, tool setup, and site prep while following safety policies. You may operate hand and power tools and assist with traffic control and equipment operation.

Responsibilities include assisting foreman with measurements, delivering supplies to machines, and keeping the job area clean and safe. Prior experience in paving is helpful but not required.

Job Summary:

Performs general construction tasks involving physical labor at construction projects. May operate hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, plate compactors, and a variety of other equipment and instruments. Involves physical labor such as shoveling, laying asphalt, and heavy lifting. Will be responsible for cleaning up rubble and debris and preparing job sites for paving. May be required to drive utility trucks and other moving equipment.

• Gathers tools for the day. Takes rakes, lutes, shovels, spray cans of release agents and more to job site;
• Assists in setting up proper traffic control;
• Delivers water to the rollers, plate compactors, power broom and other machines as required and instructed;
• Assists foreman with measuring and lining out the job for the day’s projects;
• Safely guides equipment operators within the work zone;
• Helps build launch pads at the beginning of the pull for the pavers;
• Places mix by shovelful and lutes it smoothly into a mat;
• Assists screed operator keeping an eye on the head of material by feeding material to the end gate and using a shovel to pull material out to end gate if necessary;
• Fixes any imperfections within the mat behind the screed;
• Maintains cleanliness around the job site area and excavation area;
• Ensures trucks are kept clean, including exterior, inside the cab, and windows/mirrors;
• Assists with cleaning equipment, tools, and spray cans. Fills tanks at the end of the shift if necessary and ensures all tools/materials are returned to tool truck for safekeeping;
• Saw cuts concrete and asphalt;
• Ensures a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task;
• Reports any tool or equipment malfunction to foreman and/or supervisor;
• Wears required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times;
• Brings customer issues and concerns to the attention of management; and
• Performs other duties as required or assigned.
