Job summary

The Oxnard School District seeks a Paraeducator Hearing Impaired to support deaf and hard-of-hearing students within classrooms. The role includes ASL interpretation, facilitating communication, and assisting instructional activities across the school day.

Responsibilities include sign-to-voice interpretation, helping students develop communication skills, coordinating with teachers and parents, and maintaining a safe, supportive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent and one of the following: two years of college coursework or an Associate degree; or a passing score on a state exam.
• Experience in sign language interpreting or working with hearing-impaired students is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpreting between students and teachers using ASL/PSE/SEE and oral interpreting.
• Integrate hearing-impaired students into classroom activities using sign language and other communication methods.
• Assist students in developing communication skills and understanding vocabulary and concepts.
• Observe and report student progress and behavior per district procedures.
• Support teachers by preparing materials and setting up instructional spaces.
