Job summary

CiTi BOCES seeks a qualified Teaching Assistant to provide American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting services within one of its component school districts. The successful candidate will facilitate communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and staff, ensuring access to instruction and active participation in education.

The role requires NYS Teaching Assistant certification or eligibility, ASL proficiency, and strong interpersonal skills.

Qualifications

• New York State Teaching Assistant certification or eligibility for certification.
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).
• Ability to interpret classroom instruction and school communications.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of an educational team.

Responsibilities

• Provide sign language interpreting services in academic and non-academic settings.
• Facilitate effective communication between students, teachers, related service providers, administrators, and peers.
• Support access to classroom instruction, school activities, and educational opportunities.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and educational records.
• Collaborate with teachers, service providers, and school personnel to support student success.
• Attend meetings and professional development activities as required.
• Assist with other educational support duties consistent with the role of Teaching Assistant and program needs.
