Job summary

Broome-Tioga BOCES in New York seeks a paraprofessional to support a student using American Sign Language. The position is a 10-month assignment, 6 hours per day (30 hours per week) with collaboration across the student's team to ensure accommodations are understood and implemented.

The role involves assisting the student academically and non-academically and requires accurate completion of paperwork in line with school policies.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma.
  • Fluent in American Sign Language.
  • Experience with children is preferred.
  • Understanding of the deaf culture is desirable.
  • A commitment to meeting the needs of every student.
  • A strong belief that all students can succeed.

Responsibilities

  • Use of sign language to convey teacher instruction.
  • Assisting student in academic and non-academic settings for the purpose of supporting effective communication.
  • On-going collaboration with the student's team to ensure they understand the needs of the student and how to implement accommodations.
  • Supporting student to achieve high expectations.
  • Accurately completing all paperwork related to position as required by school policies and procedures.
  • Three (3) Professional References Required - These must be filled out in the section of your application where requested.
