Job summary

North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Deaf and Hard of Hearing Division is seeking a Staff ASL Interpreter to provide direct interpretation/transliteration services and support communication access within the central/administrative office. The role includes mentorship, interpreter skill development, and consultation on licensure and licensing requirements.

Strong ASL/English skills and knowledge of deaf culture are essential for effective collaboration with the Director

Qualifications

• ASL to English and English to ASL interpreting in various settings.
• Knowledge of deaf culture and interpreting practices.
• Experience evaluating interpreting skills in others.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct interpretation/transliteration services, including tactile ASL.
• Mentor and develop interpreter skills within the team.
• Consult with the department on communication access and interpreter licensure.
