Job summary

ReNEW Schools is seeking an Interpreter for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students to facilitate communication in general education classrooms and school activities. The role requires experience, professional interpretation skills, and collaboration with teachers and staff to ensure accessible education.

The interpreter will position themselves for effective communication, participate in IEP-related meetings when needed, and support students in extracurricular activities as scheduled during the school

Qualifications

• Ability to interpret and transliterate ASL and manually coded English at a normal conversational rate.
• Experience with Sign Language interpretation and transliteration.
• Completion of interpreter preparation program or equivalent preferred; associate degree or higher encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Provide expressive and voice interpreting for students with hearing impairments in general education classes.
• Arrange the best interpreter location for each class activity to support communication.
• Serve as a liaison between the student with hearing impairment, classmates, instructors and staff.
• Promote integration of deaf/hard-of-hearing students into all class activities.
• Maintain a daily notebook/calendar including assignments and vocabulary notes.
