The interpreter will facilitate communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and staff using ASL, ensuring access to instruction and discussions. Requirements include ASL proficiency and state certifications where applicable; a degree in interpreting or deaf studies is preferred.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in American Sign Language.
• Associates degree or Bachelors degree in interpreting, deaf studies or related field, preferred.
• State Board of Education Initial Sign Language Interpreter Certificate (as applicable)
• Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) certificate (as applicable per state regulation or client requirement)
• Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification (as applicable per state regulation or client requirement)
• Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
• Current CPR if applicable
• TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
• Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
• Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
• Must be at least 18 years of age

Responsibilities

• Facilitates communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and others within an educational setting.
• Interprets spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa.
• Ensures classroom instruction, activities and learning discussions are accessible through interpretation.

The Educational Sign Language Interpreter is a trainedprofessional who facilities communication between deaf or hard-of-hearingstudents and others within an educational setting. Often, American SignLanguage (ASL) is used to interpret spoken language into sign language and viceversa, which ensures students have accommodations to classroom instruction,activities and learning discussions.

Minimum Requirements:
