Onward Education is seeking a full-time, in-person ASL Interpreter to join a school in Winnebago County, WI for the 2026-2027 year. Start ASAP; End Date 06/03/2027. Role focuses on 1:1 interpretation across classrooms, ensuring access to instruction for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students.

The candidate should have ASL fluency, knowledge of educational practices, and relevant licenses/certifications. A collaborative school environment and ongoing support from recruiters are offered.

Qualifications

• Fluency in ASL with English-to-ASL and ASL-to-English interpretation.
• Knowledge of educational interpreting practices and classroom terminology.

• Strong communication, professionalism, organization, and time management in a school setting.
• Preferred credentials include DPI license, EIPA score, and RID certifications.

Responsabilités

• Provide 1:1 interpreting support throughout the school day for student access.
• Interpret between spoken English and ASL, including transliteration as needed.
• Facilitate clear communication between student, teachers, staff, and related providers.
• Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and FERPA compliance in all interactions.
• Document services and adhere to district/state/federal interpreter standards.

• Grade level: 3 openings, all 1:1 full time. 1 High School, 1 MS and 1 K-1.

ASL Interpreter Qualifications

• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) with the ability to interpret English to ASL and ASL to English.
• Knowledge of educational interpreting practices and classroom terminology.
• Understanding of Deaf culture and the communication needs of Deaf/Hard of Hearing students.
• Strong receptive and expressive communication skills, professionalism, organization, and time management in a school setting.
• Preferred credentials include Wisconsin DPI Educational Interpreter License, a passing EIPA score (initial-license benchmark noted as 3.3), and/or RID certifications (e.g., NIC, ED:K-12, CDI, or related).

ASL Interpreter Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 interpreting support throughout the school day to ensure students can access classroom instruction and activities.
• Interpret between spoken English and ASL, including transliteration and oral interpreting as needed for student access.
• Facilitate clear communication between the student and teachers, school staff, peers, administrators, and related service providers.
• Support communication access while maintaining professional neutrality, confidentiality, and ethical decision-making in accordance with FERPA.
• Document services provided and follow applicable district, state, and federal requirements, including interpreter standards and professional ethics.
