Job summary

Schoolforce Solutions in South Carolina is seeking five talented American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters for the school year.

The role offers an hourly rate of $42.00–$56.00 with pay for overtime at 1.5x beyond 40 hours and benefits including insurance and paid holidays.

You will interpret in classrooms, support communication between Deaf or Hard of Hearing students and staff, maintain confidentiality, and stay current with best practices.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Associate’s Degree required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Certification through RID or equivalent preferred.
• SC Educational Interpreter credential required by SCDE.
• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).
• Fingerprint clearance & background check required.

Job description

• Provide sign language interpretation for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) in classroom, small group, and school-related settings.
• Facilitate communication between students, teachers, staff, and peers using American Sign Language (ASL) and other communication methods as appropriate.
• Interpret instructional content, classroom discussions, meetings, and school activities.
• Adapt interpretation style to match the student’s language level and communication needs.
• Collaborate with teachers and support staff to ensure effective communication access for students.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional interpreting standards and ethics.
• Assist in promoting independence and self-advocacy skills for students.
• Maintain accurate documentation as required by the school and district.
• Stay up to date with best practices in educational interpreting.

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Associate’s Degree required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Certification through the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or equivalent preferred.
• South Carolina Educational Interpreter certification or credential (as required by the South Carolina Department of Education – SCDE).
• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).
• Fingerprint Clearance & Background Check required.
