Qualifications

• Proficiency in American Sign Language.
• Willingness to participate in a paid six-week DeafBlind Intervener Training program.
• Experience with deaf or hard of hearing students in educational settings.
• Ability to support both sign language and spoken language development.
• Two years of college credits (60) or an Associate's degree or ParaPro.
• Ability to work as part of a collaborative team.
• Willingness to complete Professional Crisis Management training.
• Ability to obtain PCA certification.
• Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication.
• Ability to work with assistive technology.
• Basic computer and email skills.

Responsibilities

• Support learners who are deafblind using sign language and visual supports throughout the day.
• Assist classroom teacher in instruction and managing student programming.
• Adapt instructional materials to provide differentiated instruction.
• Implement data collection and monitoring to ensure student success.
• Assist licensed staff with classroom management and behavioral interventions.
• Use de-escalation techniques and ensure safety; may use restraints.
• Escort students to classes and supervise in various school areas.
• Facilitate activities under supervision of teachers and specialists.
• Maintain student safety and a positive learning environment.
• Collaborate with staff and parents to meet student needs.
• Participate in training and perform other duties as assigned.
