The interpreter will translate spoken English to American Sign Language and vice versa across instructional settings, ensuring the teacher’s instruction and student interactions remain effective and inclusive.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current nationally recognized interpreter certification applicable to the assignment.
• Proficiency in American Sign Language and in spoken/written English.

Responsibilities

• Interpret spoken English into American Sign Language and sign language into spoken English accurately and impartially.
• Provide interpreting and transliterating services during classroom instruction, meetings, and school events.
• Interpret grade-level academic content and specialized vocabulary while preserving intent and tone.
• Support communication access identified in the student’s IEP or other educational plans.
• Collaborate with teachers and staff regarding interpreting needs.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to FERPA and district policies.
