Job summary

The Learning Center for the Deaf Inc. in Massachusetts is seeking a part-time driver education instructor for the After School Program. This non-exempt, hourly role supports in-car instruction and student progress in a residential and educational environment.

Responsibilities include delivering MA-approved curriculum, maintaining records, and coordinating with parents and the Advancement Department for recruitment efforts. A valid MA license and ASL fluency are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma
• Fluent in American Sign Language
• EEC Background Check and Driving Record Check
• Must maintain a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record when driving students or performing work-related duties
• Must meet Massachusetts requirements for Driver's Education Instructor Certification and complete the RMV Driving Instructor Training prior to or upon hire

Responsibilities

• Provide Commonwealth of Massachusetts RMV's curriculum and in-car instruction to driver education students.
• Comply with MA rules and regulations regarding the driver's training vehicle and its occupants for safe and efficient travel at all times.
• Instruct students to adhere to all regulations pertaining to driving and the necessary skills to operate a motor vehicle safely, responsibly, and effectively.
• Prepare students to identify, predict, and respond according to urban and rural driving environments.
• Maintain and prepare all necessary documents, reports, records, and driver hours.
• Develop training routes, incorporating time requirements and learning objectives for each lesson.
• Provide the MA state-required parent class for minor drivers and communicate student progress with parents.
• Communicate with students and/or parents (for minor students) about the process of obtaining an MA State Driver's License.
• Work with the Advancement Department to develop marketing content for recruitment of students to the program.
• Ensure the completion of the necessary documentation to maintain TLC certification and license to be able to provide Massachusetts Driving Instruction courses and instruction.
• Report on enrollment and other metrics for the program.
• Maintain current MA Driving Instructor Certification and maintain a valid driver's license and driving record in good standing.
