The School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of North Texas is seeking a part-time Adjunct Instructor to teach courses in American Sign Language (ASL) within our growing ASL program at UNT.

We welcome candidates who are Deaf or hard of hearing with native or near-native fluency and lived cultural expertise; responsibilities include teaching ASL I–IV, delivering instruction in ASL, and engaging with the Deaf community to enrich learning.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in ASL, Deaf Studies, Interpreting, Education, or a related field.
  • Native or near-native fluency in American Sign Language.
  • Prior experience teaching ASL at the high school or college level.
  • Strong understanding of Deaf culture and community.

Responsibilities

  • Teach one or more undergraduate ASL courses (ASL I–IV) following the department curriculum.
  • Deliver instruction primarily in ASL to foster immersion.
  • Assess student progress in receptive and expressive ASL skills.
  • Incorporate Deaf culture, community norms, and current events into instruction.
  • Hold regular office hours and respond to student communication promptly.
  • Maintain attendance and grade records in the university LMS.
  • Participate in program meetings and curriculum discussions.
  • Uphold classroom leadership principles emphasizing accountability, feedback, cultural immersion, and professional growth.
