Job summary

The Pennsylvania School for the Deaf is seeking a Substitute Aide to provide versatile coverage across the school, supporting students with diverse academic, language, and physical needs. You will assist teachers, participate in instructional activities, and help ensure accessibility and participation in all school settings.

Responsibilities include instructional support, personal care, and flexible duties such as covering for a teacher, cafeteria tasks, and daily scheduling.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; AA/BA degree from an accredited institution preferred.
• ASL proficiency at Level 2+ (ASLPI) or above required; advanced proficiency preferred.
• Some background or experience in an educational setting is preferred.
• Meet entry-level requirements on PSD's Credential of Competency of Paraeducator within three years from date of hire.
• Paraeducators are required to complete twenty hours of professional development trainings annually.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a 1:1 Aide, providing individualized support to students with diverse needs in accordance with IEPs.
• Assist as a Teacher Aide for an entire class, supporting instructional activities and student engagement.
• Support cafeteria operations, meal service, organization, and related tasks as needed.
• Cover as a Substitute Teacher, implementing lesson plans and maintaining a safe, structured learning environment.
• Share weekly availability with designated administrators and respond promptly to scheduling requests for consistent coverage.
• Support daily routines and transitions, including morning arrival, rotations, specials, and end-of-day activities.
• Assist with personal care and mobility support for younger students as required.
• Collaborate with teachers and related staff to ensure continuity of instruction and student support.
• Maintain a professional demeanor and contribute to a safe, inclusive learning environment.
• Model PSD's core values: Students 1st, Language, Respect, Communication, Community Engagement.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support student success.
