About the role

As an ASIC Production Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting existing ASIC products in production and resolving the technical challenges that arise throughout their lifecycle.

You will work closely with cross-functional imec teams and external suppliers to take technical issues from initial problem identification through root-cause analysis and final resolution. Your assignments will be broad in nature and require initiative, technical curiosity, sound judgment, and excellent problem-solving skills.

In this role, you will play an important part in improving product yield, test performance, quality, and reliability while helping ensure that imec’s ASIC products continue to meet customer and production requirements.

What you will do

As an ASIC Production Engineer, you will support the performance, quality, and sustainability of ASIC products throughout production.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Support existing ASIC products in production and lead the resolution of technical production challenges.
  • Investigate yield and test issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement solutions to improve product sustainability and manufacturing performance.
  • Develop, assess, and validate product or production changes related to semiconductor processes, suppliers, test methods, acceptance criteria, and other manufacturing requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on product quality, reliability, yield, and production efficiency.
  • Work toward reducing defects and achieving the goal of zero customer returns.
  • Analyze production and test data using statistical methods to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams, manufacturing partners, test and assembly suppliers, and other external vendors to resolve technical issues.
  • Support qualification activities and assess the impact of process, supplier, material, or manufacturing changes.
  • Apply structured problem-solving and risk-based decision-making methods to complex production issues.
  • Communicate technical findings, recommendations, and progress clearly to internal stakeholders, suppliers, and project partners.

Who you are

  • You hold a Master’s degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline, with preferably 8 or more years of relevant experience in ASIC production, test, and assembly engineering.
  • You have strong knowledge of digital and analog electronics, along with experience in statistical analysis and methodologies such as Six Sigma.
  • You have experience with programming languages and data-analysis tools, preferably Python and/or C++.
  • Knowledge of qualification requirements and standards for automotive, aerospace, medical, or industrial ASIC applications, including relevant MIL-STD requirements, is considered a plus.
  • You are an effective problem solver with strong organizational skills, sound risk-based decision-making capabilities, and the ability to perform well in a fast-paced technical environment.
  • You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and can effectively collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams, suppliers, manufacturing partners, and internal stakeholders.

What we do for you

  • Opportunities to collaborate with world-class semiconductor and technology teams in the United States and Europe.
  • Professional development opportunities within imec’s global research and innovation community.
  • The opportunity to contribute directly to the quality, reliability, and successful production of advanced ASIC technologies.
