Job summary

Qualifications

• Associate of Arts degree as a Medical Laboratory Technician from a CAHEA/NAACLS accredited program; required
• ASCP Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician from a CAHEA/NAACLS accredited program; required
• Willing to consider 10 yrs of experience in a clinic or hospital laboratory in lieu of certification; may retake certification if lapsed
• Mississippi Driver’s License preferred
• Good organizational and communication (written and verbal) skills; required
• Knowledge of and appropriate handling of biohazardous specimens; required

Responsibilities

• Coordinates workflow of phlebotomists in Specimen Processing area
• Assures accurate and efficient transportation of lab-related supplies, equipment and specimens
• Follows regulatory guidelines in handling/processing of laboratory specimens
• Effectively communicate with all NMHS staff, patients, their family members and customers
• Assists with training of students and new employees
• Assists with meeting goals of department Performance Improvement initiatives
• Assures appropriate documentation of all required instrument monthly maintenance and quality control
• Stays abreast of regulatory changes
