Job summary

Socket.dev seeks a Nursing Supervisor to lead clinical and ancillary staff in Operating Rooms and Sterile Processing at our Bryn Mawr, PA facility. You will partner with the Director of Nursing and Administrator to uphold nursing standards and ensure safe, efficient patient care.

The role includes interviewing candidates, coordinating training, monitoring licensure and CPR, and participating in Quality Improvement efforts.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the state of employment.
• Minimum 5 years of clinical nursing experience with leadership exposure.
• Experience in operating rooms and sterile processing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervises all clinical and ancillary OR and sterile processing staff.
• Collaborates with Director to set nursing policies and standards.

Job description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Supervises all clinical and ancillary support personnel involved in Operating Rooms and Sterile Processing.

1. Works closely with the Director of Nursing and Administrator to establish policy and standards of nursing care and practice at facility.

1. Consults with Medical Director with regard to medical problems.

1. Communicates closely with Scheduling Coordinator regarding approved procedures. Checks draft of each operating schedule in advance and makes necessary corrections.

1. Interviews candidates for all Operative positions and makes recommendations to the Director of Nursing and Administrator for hiring or termination of employment.

1. Collaborates with the Director of Nursing and Safety Committee to develop and monitor orientation policies and procedures to provide competent staff.

1. Assists the Director of Nursing in arranging in-service programs and scheduling staff meetings.

1. Provides an adequate monitor of qualified staff. Coordinates, assigns, and/or provides relief coverage according to needs of the clinical areas. Substantiates all overtime hours to the Director of Nursing and Administrator.

1. Coordinates vacation and time off schedules with approval from Director of Nursing.

1. Monitors licensure of professional nursing personnel and CPR status.

1. Performs annual evaluations and monitors job performance of nursing staff to confirm compliance with policies and personal protection.

1. Affords efficient flow of procedures by monitoring surgeon availability, on time arrival, and informing surgeons of any delays.

1. Monitors sterilization procedures for instruments and supplies and storage of same.

1. Arranges maintenance and repair of medical equipment with the Materials Manager.

1. Works closely with the Materials Manager to monitor efficient ordering of supplies and forwards purchase requests for capital equipment to the Administrator.

1. Works closely with the Director of Nursing to schedule and conduct quarterly evacuation and fire drills for all Facility personnel.

1. Meets with the Director of Nursing, Materials Manager and manufacturer representatives regarding updates on equipment and new products.

1. Serves as member of the Continuous Quality Improvement Committee to report complication data and infection control statistics.

1. Assists Director of Nursing in coordinating employee injury/illness program with Safety Coordinator.

1. Reviews variance reports filed by staff members. Completes investigative documentation

as appropriate and forwards to Director of Nursing and Administrator for review.

1. Communicates with staff, pears, administration, physicians, patients and families in an open, direct and honest manner.
