Job summary

Bridgeview Eye Partners in Mishawaka, Indiana, is seeking an ASC Medical Assistant to support patient care in our ambulatory surgical center. You will assist with pre- and post-operative tasks, take vital signs, manage records, and help keep the clinic running smoothly.

In this fast-paced setting, you’ll work under the supervision of a registered nurse, coordinate with the ophthalmology team, ensure infection control, and protect patient confidentiality per HIPAA.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Certification from an accredited medical assisting program (CMA, RMA, NCMA, CCMA).

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care to individuals in pre-surgical, operative and recovery periods under the direction of a registered nurse; collaborate with medical staff daily.
• Provide support to nursing staff: transport of patients, housekeeping for pre-/intra-/post-surgical areas including linen changes and disinfection.
• Provide administrative support to the ASC: chart maintenance/scanning, data entry, dictations, phone calls, inventory, and supply restocking.
• Assure quality of care by adhering to compliance standards and ASC policies and regulatory guidelines.
• Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional and psychological support to patients, friends, and families.
• Maintain a safe, clean working environment by following procedures and infection control guidelines; request assistance as needed.
• Protect patients and staff by adhering to infection control policies, medication handling, and HIPAA practices.
• Monitor ASC processes to ensure alignment with organizational policies and regulator expectations.

Education

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Medical Assistant serves as support personnel following regulations for the practice of Medical Assistants including assisting with patient admissions, patient procedures, care and maintenance of procedural instrumentation, discharging patients, chart preparation, medical records, medication administration, assisting providers and other personnel as needed, and other collateral duties.

Essential Responsibilities

• Provide patient care to individuals in the pre-surgical, operative and recovery periods while under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse; collaborates with medical staff and other departments daily to promote coordination of patient care.
• Provide support to nursing staff: transport of the patient, housekeeping duties associated with changeover of pre-surgical, operating room, and post-surgical areas including linen changes and disinfection processes.
• Provide administrative support to the ASC: clerical duties to include but not limited to assisting with chart maintenance/scanning, data entry, copying, dictations, phone calls, inventory, and supply restocking.
• Assure quality of care by adhering to compliance standards; following ASC philosophies and standards of care set by state board of licensure and other governing agency regulations.
• Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional and psychological support to patients, friends, and families.
• Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; calling for assistance from health care support personnel.
• Protect patients and staff by adhering to infection–control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
• Maintain compliance with the organization’s confidentiality policy in accordance to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)â¯
• Monitor ASC processes to ensure compliance with the organization’s policies and with the guidelines set by relevant regulatory agenciesâ¯

REQUIREMENTS:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Current certification in Basic Life Support
• Current certification from an accredited medical assisting program, ie. CMA, RMA, NCMA, CCMA

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT (per ADA guidelines):

• Physical Activity: Standing for sustained periods of time, Stooping, Grasping, Lifting, Talking, Hearing. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform each activity.
• Physical requirements: Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
