Job summary

Cataract & Laser Institute in Mishawaka, IN seeks an ASC Medical Assistant to support pre- and post-operative patient care at our Ambulatory Surgical Center.

You will take vital signs, assist providers, maintain records, and help with routine administrative duties while upholding HIPAA and infection-control standards. A CMA/RMA/NCMA/CCMA certification and BLS are required. We offer a benefits package and growth through certification programs.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification.
  • Current CMA/RMA/NCMA/CCMA certification from an accredited program.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care in pre-surgical, operative and recovery periods under RN guidance.
  • Transport patients and assist with housekeeping tasks around pre-op, OR, and post-op areas.
  • Provide administrative support: chart maintenance/scanning, data entry, phone calls, inventory.
  • Ensure adherence to ASC policies, regulatory standards, and HIPAA confidentiality.
  • Offer emotional support to patients and families; maintain a safe, clean work environment.
  • Support infection-control protocols and proper medication storage and handling.

You'll assist with pre- and post-operative care, take vital signs, manage records, and support daily clinical operations within our group practice of optometry and ophthalmology. POSITION SUMMARY:

The Medical Assistant serves as support personnel following regulations for the practice of Medical Assistants including assisting with patient admissions, patient procedures, careand maintenance of procedural instrumentation, discharging patients, chart preparation, medical records, medication administration, assistingproviders and other personnel as needed, and other collateral duties.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide patient care to individuals in the pre-surgical, operative and recovery periods while under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse; collaborates with medical staff and other departments daily to promote coordination of patient care.

Provide support to nursing staff: transport of the patient, housekeeping duties associated with changeover of pre-surgical, operating room, and post-surgical areas including linen changes and disinfection processes.

Provide administrative support to the ASC: clerical duties to include but not limited to assisting with chart maintenance/scanning, data entry, copying, dictations, phone calls, inventory, and supply restocking.

Assure quality of care by adhering to compliance standards; following ASC philosophies and standards of care set by state board of licensure and other governing agency regulations.

Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional and psychological support to patients, friends, and families.

Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; calling for assistance from health care support personnel.

Protect patients and staff by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.

Maintain compliance with the organization’s confidentiality policy in accordance to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)

Monitor ASC processes to ensure compliance with the organization’s policies and with the guidelines set by relevant regulatory agencies

REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma or GED

Current certification in Basic Life Support

Current certification from an accredited medical assisting program, ie. CMA, RMA, NCMA, CCMA

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT (per ADA guidelines):

Physical Activity: Standing for sustained periods of time, Stooping, Grasping, Lifting, Talking, Hearing.The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform each activity.

Physical requirements: Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

The worker may be exposed to the following hazards:

Communicable diseases

Hazardous waste
