Qualifications

  • Five years of full-time construction experience on environmental asbestos/lead projects.
  • Two years of such experience plus CSST certification from California.
  • CA Certified Asbestos Consultant certification.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field; if no degree, years of experience compensate.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains open communication with facilities departments and project teams to provide technical support on asbestos/lead issues.
  • Prepares Phase 1 site assessments and Phase 2 abatement designs.
  • Reviews environmental reports for accuracy and integrity.
  • Surveys sites to determine best abatement methods for asbestos/lead materials.
  • Prepares job estimates and reports detailing inspection findings and project impacts.
  • Plans repair/removal/disposal of asbestos materials and encapsulation of lead-based paint.
  • Monitors projects to ensure compliance with laws and safety regulations.
  • Uses Maximo to plan and track job progress and labor charges.

A confidential employer is seeking Asbestos Abatement Coordinators for full-time positions in the Los Angeles area.

Candidates must meet one of the required experience/certification pathways and possess the required certificates listed below.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintains open communication with central and regional facilities departments and project teams to provide technical support related to asbestos and lead issues..
  • Prepares site assessments (Phase 1) and abatement designs (Phase 2) to address the impact of asbestos and lead-containing materials on construction projects..
  • Reviews environmental consultants’ Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3 project monitoring reports for accuracy..
  • Surveys sites to recommend the best method to mitigate or abate asbestos and lead-containing building materials..
  • Prepares job estimates for project assessment, design, and monitoring..
  • Prepares reports describing inspection findings or results and project impacts determined through review of construction drawings..
  • Plans the repair, removal, disposal, or encapsulation of asbestos-containing building materials and the abatement or in-place management of lead-based paint on structures and mechanical systems..
  • Conducts environmental project monitoring during construction to ensure compliance with applicable laws, project specifications, safety regulations, and established work practices..
  • Investigates accidents or incidents occurring on or near project sites during asbestos/lead-related projects..
  • Performs asbestos bulk sampling and lead wipe or paint chip sampling to investigate asbestos releases or elevated lead exposure..
  • Reviews condition assessment reports for asbestos-containing building materials (ACBM), addresses damaged or friable ACBM, and manages the processing of asbestos bulk sampling data and abatement records..
  • Updates project tracking sheets for progress status..
  • Uses Maximo to plan and track job progress and report actual labor charges..
Required Experience

Candidates must meet one of the following:

Option 1
  • Five (5) years of full-time paid professional construction experience on projects involving environmental asbestos/lead assessment, sampling, design, monitoring, and abatement..

OR

Option 2
  • Two (2) years of full-time paid professional construction experience on projects involving environmental asbestos/lead assessment, sampling, design, monitoring, and abatement; AND.
  • Certification from the State of California as a Certified Site Surveillance Technician (CSST)..

OR

Option 3
  • Certification from the State of California as a Certified Asbestos Consultant.
Required Certificates
  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Certification.
  • California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Lead Certification as:
Required Education
  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field..
  • Candidates without a degree must have additional years of experience to compensate for education on a year-for-year basis..
Location Requirement
  • Candidate must reside within 20 miles of Los Angeles, California.
