Job summary

Confidential, based near Los Angeles, seeks a qualified environmental professional to lead asbestos and lead projects, from assessment to abatement and monitoring.

You will coordinate with central and regional facilities, prepare Phase 1/2/3 work products, review monitoring reports, and ensure compliance with laws, safety rules, and project specs. Candidates must have CA certifications (CSST or Asbestos Consultant), a CA engineering degree, and reside within 20 miles of LA.

Qualifications

  • Five or more years of full-time professional construction experience on projects involving environmental asbestos/lead assessment, sampling, design, monitoring, and abatement.
  • Two years of full-time professional construction experience with CSST and related qualifications (per CA requirements).
  • Certification from the State of California as a Certified Asbestos Consultant or CSST (as applicable).
  • EPA Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Certification and CDPH Lead Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains open communication with central and regional facilities departments and project teams to provide technical support related to asbestos and lead issues.
  • Prepares Phase 1 site assessments and Phase 2 abatement designs to address asbestos and lead-containing materials on construction projects.
  • Reviews environmental consultants’ Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3 project monitoring reports for accuracy.
  • Surveys sites to recommend the best method to mitigate or abate asbestos and lead-containing building materials.
  • Prepares job estimates for project assessment, design, and monitoring.
  • Prepares reports describing inspection findings or results and project impacts determined through review of construction drawings.
  • Plans repair, removal, disposal, or encapsulation of asbestos-containing building materials and abatement or in-place management of lead-based paint on structures and mechanical systems.
  • Conducts environmental project monitoring during construction to ensure compliance with applicable laws, project specifications, safety regulations, and established work practices.
  • Investigates accidents or incidents occurring on or near project sites during asbestos/lead-related projects.
  • Performs asbestos bulk sampling and lead wipe or paint chip sampling to investigate asbestos releases or elevated lead exposure.
  • Reviews condition assessment reports for asbestos-containing building materials (ACBM), addresses damaged or friable ACBM, and manages the processing of asbestos bulk sampling data and abatement records.
  • Updates project tracking sheets for progress status.
  • Uses Maximo to plan and track job progress and report actual labor charges.

Required Experience

Candidates must meet one of the following:

Option 1
  • Five (5) years of full-time paid professional construction experience on projects involving environmental asbestos/lead assessment, sampling, design, monitoring, and abatement..

OR

Option 2
  • Two (2) years of full-time paid professional construction experience on projects involving environmental asbestos/lead assessment, sampling, design, monitoring, and abatement; AND.
  • Certification from the State of California as a Certified Site Surveillance Technician (CSST)..

OR

Option 3
  • Certification from the State of California as a Certified Asbestos Consultant.
Required Certificates
  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Certification.
  • California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Lead Certification as:
Required Education

Candidates must meet one of the following:

  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field..
  • Candidates without a degree must have additional years of experience to compensate for education on a year-for-year basis..\
