Job summary

The City and County of San Francisco is seeking a Pool Lifeguard (3208 TEX As-Needed) for the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department. This part-time, temporary exempt role supports aquatic facilities citywide, enforcing rules, performing rescues, and ensuring patron safety during the swimming season.

Applicants must hold Lifeguarding and CPR/AED certifications and commit to obtaining Oxygen Administration and Title 22 First Aid within 12 months of hire.

Qualifications

• Current Lifeguarding certification from American Red Cross or equivalent.
• CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification required.
• Must obtain Oxygen Administration for the Professional Rescuer within 12 months of appointment.
• Must obtain Title 22 - First Aid for Public Safety Personnel within 12 months of appointment.
• Certifications must be maintained throughout employment.

Responsibilities

• Patrol and monitor pool activities to prevent accidents and identify swimmers in distress.
• Perform rescue operations and administer lifesaving techniques as needed.
• Enforce pool rules and maintain order around the pool area.
• Maintain pool facilities and cleanliness, including water quality sampling when needed.
• Prepare incident/accident reports and assist with facility operations.
