Job summary

State of Oklahoma - Government Agency is seeking a Part-time AS400 Developer/Admin for a 1-year contract in Oklahoma City with hybrid options. The role focuses on maintaining and enhancing legacy RPG/CL code, DB2 for i management, and secure integrations with hosting providers.

The candidate will coordinate OS patching, batch processing, and security configurations while working closely with hosting partners to ensure reliability and compliance, with a local presence required.

Qualifications

• 5 years of hands-on AS400 (IBM i, iSeries) development and support experience.
• Proficiency in RPG IV (ILE RPG), RPGLE, CL, and SQL on DB2 for i.
• Experience in hosted/managed AS400 environments and coordination with hosting providers (e.g., Ensono).
• Strong IBM i work management, subsystem coordination, security, and user profile management.
• Experience with file transfer automation (FTP/SFTP) and external integrations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, modify, and optimize legacy RPG-based code (RPG, RPG III/IV, RPGLE, CL).
• Troubleshoot operational bugs, batch runs, and user-reported system issues.
• Update logic for regulatory/licensing changes and agency processes.
• Coordinate with hosting provider on OS patching, database utilities, and environment tweaks.
• Manage application security configurations, user profiles, object authorities, and QAUDJRN auditing.
• Manage local job queues, subsystems, and application schedulers.
• Coordinate with storage/backup teams for backups, DR testing, and verifications.
• Tune DB2 for i databases, optimize SQL queries and indexes.
• Support secure automated file transfers between hosted AS400 and external systems.
• Work with state DBAs and cloud architects to extract/clean/archive legacy data.
• Document system flows, schemas, and interdependencies for migration to cloud.

Job Title: AS400 Developer/Admin (Contractor)

Term: 1-year contract - 20 hours a week

Pay Rate:$50/Hr - $60/Hr

Location: Oklahoma City, OK (Hybrid options available) must be local

Work Authorization: USC or GC ONLY no other Visa considered

Scope: Looking for a PT AS400 Developer/Admin for a long-term contract engagement. This critical resource will provide essential application maintenance, database management, and application-level administration services for OID’s core IBM AS/400 (IBM i Series) environment.

Experience:

• 5 years of hands-on experience in AS400 (IBM i, iSeries) application development and support.
• Exceptional proficiency in RPG IV (ILE RPG), RPGLE, CL, and SQL on DB2 for i.
• Prior experience working in a hosted/managed AS400 environment, collaborating with external hosting providers (such as Ensono) to resolve infrastructure or environmental issues.
• Proven experience in IBM i work management, subsystem coordination, application security, and user profile management.
• Strong background in file transfer automation (FTP, SFTP) and managing external integrations.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain, modify, and optimize custom legacy application code written in RPG, RPG III, RPG IV (ILE RPG), RPGLE, and Control Language (CL).
• Investigate and troubleshoot operational bugs, batch run anomalies, and user reported system issues.
• Update existing logic to adapt to regulatory changes, licensing requirements, and agency business process updates.
• Serve as the primary technical point of contact to coordinate with the hosting provider for system maintenance, OS patching schedules, database utilities, and environmental adjustments.
• Manage application-level security configurations, including user profiles, object level authority, and verify system audit logs (QAUDJRN) to maintain system integrity.
• Manage local job queues, active subsystems, and application-level job schedulers.
• Coordinate with Ensono’s storage and backup operations teams to ensure application backup windows, disaster recovery testing, and restoration verifications are carried out successfully.
• Query, manage, and tune DB2 for i databases, optimizing SQL queries and indexes to ensure database responsiveness.
• Support secure, automated file transfers (SFTP/FTP) and interfaces between the hosted AS400 partition and downstream state, regional, or partner systems.
• Cooperate with state database administrators and cloud architects to extract, clean, and archive legacy tables.
• Document system flows, database schemas, and interdependencies to facilitate a seamless transition of legacy business logic to modern cloud systems.
