Job summary

Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay in Virginia Beach, VA, seeks an experienced Pastry Chef to lead the community bakery program and craft artisanal breads, pastries, and desserts for residents and guests.

You will mentor junior staff, maintain strict food safety and production standards, manage inventory, and align with the Executive Chef and Director of Dining Services to meet budget and quality goals.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in a high-volume food production environment.
• Expert-level understanding of cooking techniques, menu plating, and ingredient management.
• At least one year of experience managing and directing a pastry team.
• Expert in flavor balance, texture pairing, menu presentation, and recipe scaling.
• Thorough knowledge of health, safety, and sanitation regulations (including HACCP).
• Maintains a neat, clean, and professional appearance at all times.

Responsibilities

• Prepares appealing, tasty food items following recipes provided for preparation and plate service of food.
• Maintains production and sanitation standards in line with policies.
• Supervises and trains pastry staff; mentors Asst. Pastry Chef and team.
• Manages inventory and documentation to support bakery program goals.
• Ensures compliance with health and safety regulations and quality controls.
