Goliath Partners is seeking a Founding AI Engineer in San Francisco (Hybrid) to own and shape the core AI architecture powering its enterprise automation platform. The role involves direct collaboration with the founders and making key technical decisions for production-ready AI systems.

You will drive autonomous workflows, enable agents to use external software, and build robust testing and evaluation pipelines to ensure reliability and accuracy.

Founding AI Engineer, SF (Hybrid)

A venture backed AI company is looking for an early engineering hire to help develop the core intelligence powering its enterprise automation platform.

This is a highly hands on position for someone who has already moved LLM or agent based technology beyond the prototype stage. You will work closely with the founders, take ownership of major technical decisions, and build AI systems that customers rely on for complex, high value business processes.

The Role

• Develop the core architecture behind autonomous, multi step AI workflows
• Build systems that allow agents to use external software, retain context, and complete complex tasks
• Create testing and evaluation frameworks for reliability, accuracy, and performance
• Determine when to use prompting, retrieval, fine tuning, or different underlying models
• Rapidly test new research and integrate the strongest approaches into the product
• Investigate production failures and turn them into lasting system improvements
• Influence technical direction, engineering standards, and future hiring

The Ideal Background

• 2+ years of software engineering, machine learning, or applied AI experience
• Experience delivering an LLM powered or agent based product to real users
• Strong understanding of model evaluation, tool calling, retrieval, prompting, and orchestration
• Able to build reliable production software around probabilistic AI systems
• Comfortable owning loosely defined problems from initial idea through deployment
• Closely follows developments in LLMs and agentic AI
• Strong computer science or engineering fundamentals
