Job summary

Local Projects, LLC is seeking an Art Director: Media & VFX in New York City to lead teams delivering photoreal CG character/world development and immersive scenes. The role emphasizes on-set VFX, AI-assisted workflows, and cross-disciplinary collaboration across animation, editing, and sound.

The ideal candidate has 8–10 years in design with 3–5 years in leadership, strong portfolio in media-rich projects, and residency in NY/NJ area. Travel and studio presence required.

Qualifications

• Lead CG design and animation teams in VFX-heavy projects.
• Strong design sensibility with technical expertise and conceptual thinking.
• Experience with 2D/3D pipelines and live-action integration.
• Proficiency in Maya, Cinema 4D, Unreal or Unity and compositing tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical and creative design process with experimentation.
• Ensure ADA accessibility across physical environments.
• Communicate concepts and requirements clearly to teams/clients.
• Translate strategies into actionable design direction with project leads.
• Coordinate dependencies, budgets, specs, and production constraints.
• Manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Lead design reviews and provide development feedback.
• Stay current on industry practices and share with teammates.
• Evolve department standards and best practices.
