Job description

Location: Los Angeles, CA. Remote, with select days in office and on location

Reports to: Chief Brand Officer

Type: Full-Time, Exempt

About Us

Olive Ateliers is a design house built on one conviction: the objects worth living with are the ones worth leaving behind. Founded in Los Angeles in 2021, we work at the intersection of two practices. Discovery: sourcing one-of-a-kind antiques and rare vintage from around the world. Design: three to four original collections a year, built around a place, a muse, or a way of living, made by artisans and engineered to last generations.

The work is for the person who chooses patina over polish, lineage over launch hype, rituals over trends. Featured in Vogue, The New York Times, Architectural Digest, and ELLE Decor, in conversation with Jacquemus, Loewe, Burberry, and Aimé Leon Dore, the brand reaches a community of more than 800,000. A new flagship, an original content series, and a three-year retail expansion are all underway: the chapter where the foundation becomes a legacy.

The Opportunity

We are hiring a full-time Art Director to be the visual steward of the brand as it steps into its next chapter. This is a foundational, hands-on role: the single visual point of view across social, editorial, branding, campaigns, retail, and lifecycle. You are in the work rather than above it, but you will not be a team of one. Photographers, stylists, set designers, and production partners execute alongside you, we staff the work properly, and you help build and lead the creative function as it grows. You report to the Chief Brand Officer, who holds the brand vision and concepts the campaigns.

We are not looking for someone to change the brand, but to evolve it: to carry Olive Ateliers from a beloved curator into a fully realized lifestyle house, with the restraint and cultural fluency it has been building toward. The right person has spent time inside a luxury design house with an authored point of view and is ready to help shape one rather than maintain one.

Responsibilities

The full span of an art director’s remit, held to the Olive Ateliers standard.

Social and editorial

  • Set and steward the visual and editorial foundation of the Instagram feed: seasonal moods, references, pacing, storytelling, the feeling of the feed.
  • Brief and approve weekly content executed by our content creator and curator, against the foundation you build.
  • Define how UGC and gifted content lives inside the brand's editorial world: what to seek from creators, what works, and when to feature it.
  • Hold a considered posting rhythm: Pinterest-style inspiration collages, editorial carousels, and architecture, design, and product shown in context.

Campaigns

  • Partner with the Chief Brand Officer, who concepts each campaign, to translate vision into execution.
  • Recommend and brief the DP, stylist, set designer, location, and casting.
  • Develop treatments, shot lists, and pre-production materials.
  • Art direct on set, then direct post-production edit selection and color.
  • Work to a cadence of three to four original hero campaigns per year, the in-development content series, and occasional brand moments.

Original content series

  • Lead concept development for an in-development content series alongside the brand team.
  • Frame the series in a documentary, longer-form register: makers, places, rituals, the slow craft behind the collections, the cultural threads the brand pulls on.
  • Recommend the DP, talent, and creative partners suited to that register.
  • Define the visual and narrative through-line that ties the series together as a body of work.

Retail and in-store

  • Carry the campaign off the screen and into the room: installations, window displays, and visual merchandising.
  • Consult on the creative expression of the brand within the West Hollywood flagship.
  • Direct materials, fixtures, signage, merchandising, and the brand story in space.
  • Partner with the architect and interior designer through active design development.

Branding, lifecycle, and paid

  • Hold one distinctive point of view across every surface the brand touches, from the feed to the smallest printed detail.
  • Bring the same editorial eye to lifecycle and paid, so commerce-facing work never feels a step down from the campaigns.
  • Keep the house consistent without letting it calcify.

Building the creative function

  • Help define, hire, and shape the team as it scales from one hand to several.
  • Set the standard new designers, creators, and partners work to.
  • Build the references and rituals that let one point of view survive more hands, growing from maker into creative leader while staying in the work.

Who You Are

An experienced art director who can hold creative authority while collaborating closely with a Chief Brand Officer who holds a strong brand vision. Specifically:

  • Experience. 3+ years in an Art Director or Creative Director role, built on 5+ years in graphic design. You have owned the work, not just contributed to it.
  • Hands-on. A maker, not just a manager-in-waiting. Still fluent in the tools and happy to be in them: designing, laying out, refining, producing. You set the standard by making the work, and any team you eventually build learns it by watching you do it.
  • Luxury fluency. Time inside a luxury design house, whether in-house or as a contractor. Fashion, home, or another category; the discipline travels. What matters is that you have worked to a luxury standard and know what it asks of you.
  • Obsession. In love with what we do and what we are building. You understand the difference between changing a brand and evolving one, and you want to help carry Olive Ateliers into its next chapter. A natural love of interiors, architecture, fashion, furniture. Not researched for the job. Already yours.
  • Sensibility. Fluent in patina, restraint, and timelessness as design principles, not trends. Comfortable with the idea that beauty lives in worn edges, and that the most soulful objects are built to outlive their owners.
  • Posture. Willing to take direction and generous enough to translate someone else's vision into the work; confident enough to bring your own ideas to the table, and happy to let the best idea win whoever it came from.
  • Portfolio. Lifestyle, home, hospitality, or design-house work. Reference brands include Flamingo Estate, Roman and Williams, Aimé Leon Dore, Zara Home, Loewe, and Jacquemus. Editorial sensibility matters more than the scale of past clients.
  • Creative production (a plus, not a prerequisite). Fluency in the production side of the work is welcome but not required: art buying, talent casting, location scouting, and the craft of turning a treatment into a shoot. If you have it, we will lean on it. If you don\'t, we will build around it.

Compensation

  • Annual Salary: $125,000-$150,000, commensurate with experience and capabilities
  • Long-term incentive program aligned with company growth
  • Subsidized company health benefits
  • 401k: Generous employer match (eligibility requirements and vesting applies)
  • 40% off retail merchandise

This is a chance to help shape a design house from inside the room where it happens, and to author the visual language the next decade will be built on.
