The Institute for Contemporary Art (ICA) at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) invites applications for the part-time Cafe and Retail Associate position. This role supports daily operations of the ICA Shop + Cafe within the ICA’s MBU and emphasizes a welcoming guest experience in a dynamic art-focused setting.

The role requires excellent customer service, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and flexibility to work weekends/evenings.

Responsibilities

Create a welcoming and hospitable environment for visitors to the ICA Shop + Cafe.
Provide day-of support for public and private events.
Receive shipments and assist with stocking and inventory.
Process ICA Shop + Cafe sales and log visitor feedback.
Maintain knowledge of ICA offerings and menu items.
Answer phone inquiries and assist visitors.
Ensure ServSafe Food Handler certification is maintained.
Assist with menu execution and updates as needed.
Display knowledge of ingredients and preparation used on the menu.
Participate in food preparation and proper storage of items.
Keep prep stations stocked, clean, and organized during service.
Perform barista duties for tea and coffee service.
Contribute to timely, high-quality plate assembly and service.
Maintain calm, professional demeanor handling tickets and guests.
Collaborate with a small team and support colleagues.
Perform other duties as assigned.
