Summary:
Uniformed position at all times. Armed Security Officers' duties include being a visible deterrent to criminal activity, providing security for patients, associates, and visitors, and protecting and patrolling hospital buildings, assets, and premises as assigned. The Armed Security Officer is responsible for responding to all emergency codes, internal/external disaster events as needed and/or requested, conducting preliminary investigations of reported incidents, and performing other security-related tasks as directed by a security supervisor or manager. The Armed Security Officer must have flexibility in hours and be able to rotate between facilities, including travel whenever necessary. CHRISTUS-approved uniforms must be worn in accordance with dress code requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Meet expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
- Conduct frequent security patrols of the facilities and grounds as assigned.
- Identify and report trends related to security issues and recommend actions.
- Take initial information for incident reports, use proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, note only facts, and submit reports in a timely manner (no later than the end of the assigned shift).
- Respond promptly to all service requests relayed by supervisor, telephone, pass-on, email, radio, cell phone, and other correspondence courteously and expeditiously.
- Handle collection, inventory, and return of lost and found items, patient valuables, medication, and personal property according to policy.
- Enforce all rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of CHRISTUS Health and applicable laws.
- Control and enforce facility parking through patrols, violation warnings, towing, booting, and explaining rules as applicable.
- Assist clinical/non-clinical staff with combative patients or visitors.
- Demonstrate competence to perform assigned client care responsibilities, meeting age-specific and developmental needs.
- Operate security systems including Attendant Console, Paging System, CCTV, and overhead paging efficiently.
- Use PC to generate electronic reports, incident reports, emails, and other electronic correspondence.
- Report safety hazards observed during security rounds to promote a safe environment.
- Adapt client assessment, treatment, and care methods to meet individual needs.
- Demonstrate proficiency with handguns, handcuffs, baton, non-crisis intervention, and two-way radios.
- Handle exposure to aggressive behavior, hazardous conditions, external weather, and perform physical tasks including walking, standing, stooping, and lifting.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be mentally alert, with excellent communication skills.
- Ability to make immediate decisions, handle multiple tasks, and manage stress and potential violence.
- Minimum two years of armed security experience preferred, with law enforcement or healthcare security experience also preferred.
- Active Level 3 Certification (Texas) required; other state-specific certifications and training as specified.
- Completion of required training such as de-escalation, BLS, baton, defensive tactics, firearms, and others within specified timeframes.
- IAHSS Basic Security Certification within one year of employment.
- Successful completion of pre-employment assessments and drug screening.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Completion of FEMA courses IS-100.c, IS-200.b, and IS-230.d.
