JOB TITLE: Armed Security Officer

WAGE / HOUR STATUS: Hourly/Exempt/Full Time

MONTHS/DAYS: 12 months/ 234 daysPAY GRADE: per 2026-2027 pay schedule

PRIMARY PURPOSE

Supervise andensure the safety, security, and welfare of all students, faculty, staff, and visitors at Bob Hope School. Aide to emergency preparedness of District campuses, facilities, students, staff , volunteers, and visitors.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid drivers license and Firearm Owner's Identification Card.
  • Successfully pass a fingerprint criminal background investigation, physical fitness examination, drug/alcohol screening and mental health evaluation.

Experience

  • One to three years of security or police officer work.

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Coursework, training or prior licensure in law enforcement, public safety, security, or related discipline
  • Must be able to pass a background check for a firearm purchase.
  • Credentialed or certified in emergency management (AEM, CEM, TEM or similar) (preferred)
  • Ability to meet established deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively & ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong organizational, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Keen independent judgment.
  • Knowledge of school safety, security and/or law enforcement procedures, practices and related standards, codes, and laws
  • Knowledge of emergency management/emergency preparedness methodology and concepts (preferred)
  • Skilled in use of relevant, security-related technology (e.g., security video systems, mass notification systems, visitor management systems, access control, etc.) (preferred)
  • Exceptional writing skills, particularly in the context of business communications, drafting policies, procedures, operational plans, training materials, fact-gathering, investigations and after-actionreports
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal and customer service/public relations skills.
  • Skilled in the use of office/business technology (e.g., MS Office Suite, G-Suite, etc.)
  • Skilled in supervisory functions, methods, staffing and evaluation (preferred)
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Responsible for acquiring ae rial photographs of each campus and doors numbered in case of an emergency.
  • Maintain order, prevent crime, and assist the building Administration with the operations of the school on school property or at school-sponsored events when necessary and appropriate.
  • Enforcement of Texas Criminal Code, Traffic Code, Education Code, Health and Safety Code, Family Code, and applicable City o f Port Arthur Ordinances on the property of the District .
  • Provide proactive patrol of the campus for violations of laws and suspicious persons and activity.
  • Provide emergency response to crimes or emergencies in progress.
  • Provide Investigation and Documentation of crimes occurring on the campus es .
  • Respond to and investigate intrusion and fire alarms.
  • Respond to non-emergency calls for service relating to the District .
  • Assist other law enforcement agencies that may be involved with district students or personnel.
  • Provide or Coordinate Emergency Mental Health Officer response to the campus.
  • Provide Investigation and Documentation of allegations of District Employee misconduct.
  • Provide Investigation and Documentation of violations of student code of conduct involving threats to safety.
  • Provide Investigation and Documentation of allegations of sexual harassment reported to campus administrators.
  • Investigate and Document rreported serious illnesses and injuries occurring on District property or relating to the District .
  • Investigate fires on campus and serve as a liaison with the Port Arthur Fire Department Arson Investigators.
  • Be alert for and report Facility-Related safety concerns.
  • Investigate and Document collisions occurring on campus.
  • Officers are to respond to classrooms to assist teachers with emergencies such as fights or persons with weapons. **Officers Are Not To Become Involved With School Violations such as Student Dress Code, Student Cursing, Student Refusing To Pull Up Pants, Student Refusing To Comply With Classroom Rules*. The teacher should contact an Administrator to assist with violations of classroom or school rules.
  • Officers are to be visible and present in hallways during transition periods and visible during lunch periods.
  • Officers are to assist faculty to physically restrain students who are "Out of Control" and a danger to others, themselves, or damaging property. Officers may restrain the student to gain control of the situation.
  • Assist the campus in conducting drills (Fire, Lockdown, Shelter in Place, etc. )
  • Assist campus administration in child custody matters, Temporary Restraining Orders and Family Protective Orders.
  • Assist campus administrators with locating a parent in case of an emergency.
  • Assist campus administrators and Attendance Clerks in cases involving Truancy.
  • Provide a Police Presence to Administrators while they are dealing with irate persons. Officers are to instruct the irate person to vacate the premises if the Officer is requested to do so by the Administrator. **Officers can sit in on conferences with parents if requested to do so by an administrator if the administrator feels that the parent may become irate enough to cause violence during the conference**
  • Standby with Administrators, if requested to do so, during employee job actions such as employee suspensions and terminations. ·
  • Assist administrators v. th e "Threat Assessments" on students or staff exhibiting ala rmi ng behavior.
  • Provide assistance to campuses with traffic flow problems if equipped to do so.
  • Coordinate enforcement with the Port Arthur Police Department regarding school zone speed enforcement.
  • Keep Supervisors updated on cases and situations arising in the field.
  • Provide security services as requested at certain District Functions such as athletic events, graduation, and other special events .
  • Since the enactment of "David's Law" there will be a lot of bullying reports that are fielded by the police department that do not rise to a criminal offense. These are on a case - by - case basis and officers will assist in determining the level of threat. Only those that meet criminal elements will be accepted for police investigation.
  • Assist with, provide, or otherwise coordinate Emergency Medical Response to the campus, as requested .
  • The case packet will be shared with Campus Administrators, to the extent allowed by law, to facilitate the disciplinary process.
  • Collaborate with Campus Director to keep appraised of campus incidents/issues.
