Summary:

Uniformed position at all times. Armed Security Officers' duties include being a visible deterrent to criminal activity, providing security for patients, staff, and visitors, and protecting hospital buildings, assets, and premises as assigned. They are responsible for responding to emergency codes, disaster events, conducting investigations of incidents, and performing other security tasks as directed by supervisors or managers. Flexibility in hours and the ability to rotate between facilities, including travel when necessary, are required. CHRISTUS-approved uniforms must be worn according to dress code.

Responsibilities:

• Meet expectations of applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
• Conduct frequent security patrols of facilities and grounds.
• Identify and report security trends; recommend actions.
• Take initial incident information, use proper documentation, and submit reports promptly.
• Respond courteously and expeditiously to service requests via various communication methods.
• Handle lost and found items, patient valuables, and personal property according to policy.
• Enforce all rules, regulations, policies, and laws applicable to CHRISTUS Health.
• Manage facility parking enforcement, including citations and towing.
• Assist clinical/non-clinical staff with handling combative patients or visitors.
• Demonstrate competence in assigned responsibilities, considering age-specific and developmental needs.
• Operate security systems including CCTV, radios, and overhead paging.
• Use PC to generate reports and electronic correspondence.
• Report safety hazards observed during rounds.
• Adapt care methods to meet individual needs.
• Demonstrate proficiency with security equipment and crisis intervention.
• Handle exposure to aggressive behavior, hazardous conditions, and outdoor elements.
• Perform physical tasks such as walking, standing, lifting, and restraining as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned, maintaining alertness, communication skills, and decision-making abilities.

Job Requirements:

Education/Skills:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:

• Minimum two years of armed security experience preferred, or honorable military service.
• Law enforcement or healthcare security experience preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:

• Active Level 3 Certification (Texas) required.
• For Texas positions, active security officer commission with the Texas Department of Public Safety is required.
• Completion of required training prior to hire in applicable states.
• Verbal De-escalation training within 60 days of hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 60 days.
• Additional training in baton, defensive tactics, firearms, and retention required before authorization to carry.
• Successful completion of assessments and psychological evaluations.
• Random drug testing required.
• Valid driver’s license required.
