Summary:
Uniformed position at all times. Armed Security Officer's duties include being a visible deterrent to criminal activity, providing security for patients, associates, and visitors, protecting and patrolling hospital buildings, assets, and premises as assigned. The Armed Security Officer is responsible for responding to all emergency codes, internal/external disaster events as needed and/or requested, conducting preliminary investigations of reported incidents, and performing other security-related tasks as directed by a security supervisor and/or manager. The Armed Security Officer must have flexibility in hours and be able to rotate between facilities, including travel whenever necessary. CHRISTUS-approved uniforms must be worn in accordance with dress code requirements.
Responsibilities
- Meet expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
- Conduct frequent security patrols of the facilities and grounds as assigned.
- Identify and report trends related to security issues and recommend actions.
- Take initial information for incident reports, use proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, note only facts, leave out personal opinions, and submit reports in a timely manner (no later than the end of the assigned shift).
- Respond promptly to all service requests relayed by supervisor, telephone, pass-on, e-mail, radio, cell phone, and other correspondence in a courteous and expeditious manner.
- Handle collection, inventory, and return of lost and found items, patient valuables, medication, and personal property according to policy.
- Enforce all rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of CHRISTUS Health and the laws of the state in which CHRISTUS operates.
- Control and enforce facility parking using patrols, violation warning citations, towing, booting, and explaining rules as applicable.
- Assist clinical/non-clinical associates with combative patients or visitors.
- Demonstrate competence to perform assigned client care responsibilities, meeting age-specific and developmental needs.
- Operate Attendant Console, Paging System, security radio/dispatch system, Digital Video Recorder (NVR), CCTV monitors, and overhead paging system proficiently.
- Use PC to generate electronic daily activity security reports, incident reports, emails, and other electronic correspondence.
- Report safety hazards observed during security rounds to promote a safe environment.
- Adapt client assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to meet individual needs.
- Demonstrate proficiency with handgun, handcuffs, baton, non-crisis intervention certification, and two-way radios.
- Handle exposure to aggressive behavior, hazardous conditions, external weather, and perform physical tasks such as walking, standing, stooping, and lifting.
- Perform other duties as assigned, stay mentally alert, communicate effectively, and handle stress and violence appropriately.
Job Requirements
Education/Skills:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
- Minimum two (2) years of armed security experience preferred, possibly substituted by honorable military service.
- Law enforcement or healthcare security experience preferred.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:
- Active Level 3 Certification (Texas) required.
- For Texas positions, an active security officer commission with the Texas Department of Public Safety Private Security Bureau (TDPSPSB) is required.
- New hires must obtain their security commission prior to hire if completed the course with TDPSPSB.
- New hires in New Mexico must be eligible to process and obtain their security commission prior to hire.
- In Louisiana, weapon carry requires 40 hours of training and approval from the CHRISTUS Vice President of Security.
- Complete Verbal De-escalation training within 60 days of hire.
- Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 60 days from the American Heart Association.
- Complete training in Baton, defensive tactics, firearms, weapon qualification, and retention prior to authorization to carry.
- Pass pre-employment assessments including MMPI-2-RF-PCIR, CPI, PPSSR, PEI, and a psychological interview.
- Subject to random drug testing.
- Valid driver’s license required.
