Job summary

GSG Protective Services is seeking Armed Security Officers to protect visitors and staff across various sites in the Sparks/Reno area. Officers will be responsible for safety, reporting, and enforcing post orders while maintaining professional conduct.

The role requires firearms handling, state-permitted credentials, and a strong commitment to customer service with a focus on de-escalation and emergency response.

Qualifications

• Must have 3 years security experience.
• Firearms permit required by state law.
• Security Guard Permit as required by state law.
• 18+ years of age.
• Documents that establish identity and authorization to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Be alert and attentive to ensure personal safety and observation of activities.
• Collaborate with GSG Protective Services staff and client staff.
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
• Observe and report activities on and around the post.
• Follow safety rules and procedures at the post.
• Submit written/verbal reports for designated activities and irregularities.
• Provide courteous customer service while greeting individuals.
• Relay information to on-coming officers as needed.
• Respond calmly to emergencies and follow post policies.
• Patrol premises and control access points.
• De-escalate hostile situations when possible.
• Safely handle firearms and/or other authorized weapons.
• Clock in/out and file reports using computer/smartphone apps.
• Post-specific duties defined in post orders.

Job Skills / Requirements

GSG Protective Services is seeking Armed Security Officers to work a variety of sites and posts. Armed Security Officers will be responsible for maintaining the safety and security of Visitors and staff on the property assigned. Additional duties and responsibilities will be defined in the site-specific post orders.

Responsibilities

• Be alert and attentive while on duty to ensure personal safety and your ability to observe activities, irrelevant of working environment.
• Collaborate with all GSG Protective Services and client staff, irrelevant of position rank or title.
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
• Observe and report various activities on and around the assigned post.
• Practice all safety rules and procedures, at assigned post, as established by GSG Protective Services to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
• Report designated activities and irregularities by submitting written and/or verbal reports.
• Making customer service a top priority – be pleasant and courteous while greeting all individuals.
• Receive and pass down relevant information from the officer you are relieving or being relieved by.
• Ability to respond to emergency situations in a calm manner, carry out policies related to the situation and respond to instructions with urgency as needed.
• Patrol the premises and/or control access points.
• De-escalate hostile or potentially hostile situations.
• Safely handle firearms and/or any other weapons authorized to carry.
• Clock in and out, log in and out for break and file reports using computer and smart phone apps.
• Additional essential duties will be defined in the Post Orders of the specific post for which the security officer is assigned.

Requirements

• 18+ years of age
• Security Guard Permit as required by state law.
• Firearms Permit as required by state law.
• Chemical Weapons/Pepper Spray Permit as required by state law.
• 3 years security experience
• Documents that establish identity
• Documents that establish authorization to work in the U.S

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

• Listen, understand, summarize, transfer and retain basic instructions and detailed information.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; including the ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to maintain control of a firearm and/or other assigned weapons in a hostile situation.
• Ability to observe and report activity.
• Ability to walk or sit for prolonged periods of time.
• Ability to write detailed reports.
• Ability to use computer and smart phone applications.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

• High School Diploma or GED
• Knowledge of security operations and procedures
• Customer Service experience
• 5 years Security experience
