Job summary

Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office is hiring an Air Guard Security Officer to secure SDANG facilities and assets. Role includes armed security across entry points, aircraft, hangars, and storage areas, with 12-hour shifts and a strong emphasis on safety and lawful response.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, valid driver's license, firearm safety training, and successful completion of background checks. Retirement and PTO benefits accompany this essential public safety role.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and one year of relevant work experience.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and must maintain a safe driving record with Minnehaha County.
• Must successfully complete firearm safety training and the qualifications process including requalifying annually.
• Must be able to pass the Air Guard background check, physical fitness test, and vision requirements.
• Must successfully complete pre-employment background process.

Responsibilities

• Provide armed security across entry points, aircraft, hangars, munitions and firearms storage.
• Detain threats and ensure safe operation of Air Guard facilities.
• Maintain surveillance, conduct security checks, and patrol interior/exterior perimeters.
• Maintain and responsibly employ weapons, vehicles, and security equipment.
• Respond to FAA tower calls, intrusions, and on-base incidents with decisive action.
• Operate the security desk, monitor lines and cameras, and keep information flowing between agencies.
• Maintain blotter and daily activity logs for real-time leadership insight.
• Brief and dispatch patrols and coordinate unified responses across the installation.
• Assist civilians and military personnel to ensure a safe work environment.
