Job summary

International African American Museum in Charleston, SC is seeking an Armed Security Officer to help provide a safe and welcoming environment for visitors, staff, volunteers, and priceless collections. This is a full-time role with competitive pay and comprehensive benefits.

The officer will patrol facilities, monitor cameras, respond to incidents, manage crowds at events, and assist with inspections while delivering excellent customer service and maintaining a visible security presence.

Qualifications

• SC Concealed Weapons Permit required at time of interview.
• SLED background check required.
• Previous verified security experience.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• CPR and First Aid Certification, or ability to obtain within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Patrol museum buildings and grounds to maintain a safe and secure environment.
• Monitor surveillance cameras and security systems.
• Conduct routine security inspections of doors, windows, gates, and restricted areas.
• Respond to alarms, emergencies, and incidents with professionalism and sound judgment.
• Contact law enforcement, fire, or emergency medical personnel when appropriate.
• Investigate suspicious activity and complete detailed incident reports.
• Assist with crowd management during museum events and public programs.
• Escort unauthorized individuals from the property when necessary.
• Detain individuals suspected of criminal activity until law enforcement arrives, when appropriate.
• Deliver outstanding customer service while maintaining a visible security presence.
