Job summary

Summa Health System is seeking an Armed Security Officer to patrol hospital grounds and facilities, ensuring a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. This part-time position involves enforcing hospital policies and local laws with professional vigilance.

Qualified candidates will hold OPOTA certification and a high school diploma, be at least 21, and maintain firearms and Conducted Electrical Weapon certifications as required.

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent.
OPOTA Private Security academy and/or OPOTA 20 Hour Private Security Firearms Certification or OPOTA Basic Police Academy.
Must be 21 years of age or over at time of hire.
Must maintain active firearms certification to department and OPOTA standard.
Must maintain active Conducted Electrical Weapon certification to department standard.
Honorable discharge from military service can be substituted for related work experience.
Completion of coursework in higher education in a related field can be substituted for some or all required work experience.

Salary Explanation

The salary range on this job posting/advertising is base salary exclusive of any bonuses or differentials. Many factors, such as years of relevant experience and geographical location are considered when determining the starting rate of pay. Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications

Ability to perform functions requiring running, walking, physical restraint of others.
Exposure to inclement weather.
Ability to communicate effectively with visitors, staff, patients and other law enforcement representatives.
Maintain proficiency with firearms and self-defense techniques.
Must handle all incidents in a confidential manner, displaying compassion.
Required to carry firearm within the scope of their duties.
Obtains the provided training and certification and required to carry a Conducted Electrical Weapon with the scope of their duties.
Required to operate handheld and walk through metal detectors.
Preferred to have a valid Ohio Driver’s License and meet Summa Fleet Insurance Standards, but not required.
Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity.
Obtains the provided training and certification for NVCI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) training within the first six months of hire and annually thereafter.

Level of Physical Demands

Heavy: Exerts 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or ten to 20 pounds of force continuously to move objects.
