Qualifications

• State of Delaware Constable License required.
• High School Diploma required; one year of specialized training beyond high school required.
• Valid State Driver’s license and ability to operate hospital vehicles.
• Must pass a criminal background check and MMPI testing.
• Maintain Constable certification per Delaware State Police licensing requirements.
• Maintain Tasers certification via Certified Axon Instructor.
• Maintain CPR and AED certifications.

Responsibilities

• Patrol hospital buildings, grounds, and entry points to ensure security and safety.
• Prevent, detect, investigate and report unlawful and unsafe activities; conduct interviews and investigations.
• Apply non-violent de‑escalation techniques and manage combative situations.
• Provide first responder assessment of threats to staff, patients, and families.
• Conduct drills for fire, evacuations, and emergency management as required.
• Control access to the campus and enforce visitor restrictions.
• Escort and monitor patients and visitors; perform searches and ensure patient safety.
• Exercise detention and arrest powers when necessary; manage public safety entry points.
• Respond to alarms (doors, motion, duress, fire, medical) and other incidents.
• Support crowd control and evacuations; provide vehicle transport or ambulance support as needed.
• Enforce parking and traffic control on campus.
