Job summary

The State of Delaware is seeking an entry-level Constable I to perform uniformed, sworn peace officer duties in court facilities, including protection, arrests, and serving legal documents. This role emphasizes security operations and access control to ensure safe court environments.

Responsibilities include inspecting facilities for weapons, operating CCTV and alarm systems, and coordinating with judicial personnel and other security teams.

Qualifications

• Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas: At least 21 years of age.
• Six months' experience in security such as providing protective services to persons, facilities or grounds from trespassing, theft, and other conditions.
• Six months' experience in record keeping such as maintaining records, logs, and managing filing systems used for such records.
• Six months' experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.

Responsibilities

• Receives general supervision from a technical or administrative supervisor; the supervisor provides general direction on all assignments, and regular review of progress, accuracy, and quality of work.
• Performs armed, enforcement, protection and security work and assists higher-level staff with field work.
• Inspects the assigned courtroom and court facility for explosives, firearms, and weapons, and searches individuals entering the court facility, confiscates unauthorized weapons and contraband, and takes custody of evidence in court which may include securing guns, ammunition, and knives.
• Sets up, operates, troubleshoots, and monitors various electronic equipment such as CCTV, paging systems, wireless microphones, audiovisual systems, audio and video recorders, overhead projectors, two-way radios, metal detectors, surveillance cameras, and panic alarms.
• Communicates effectively with judicial personnel, law enforcement agencies, contracted security, and the public to maintain security and control behavior, and to gather, relay, or provide information
