Job summary

St. Clair County seeks an armed Bailiff to ensure court security at Port Huron and Marine City locations. The role protects judges, staff and the public, maintains order, handles inmate movement, and responds to emergencies with appropriate force and restraint.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, 1–3 years in law enforcement or security, and familiarity with x-ray and metal-detection equipment; Associate’s degree preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office is expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred.
• 1–3 years in law enforcement/security or military; court experience preferred.
• Knowledge to operate x-ray and metal detection equipment.

Responsibilities

• Screen entrants and confiscate prohibited items.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of court equipment used in screening.
• Enforce courtroom rules and maintain order.
• Use verbal commands and force as needed to restrain individuals.
• Respond to emergencies and incidents in the courthouse.
• Prepare and submit incident reports to Court Security Coordinator.
