Job summary

Metals USA in Tuksa, OK, is seeking an Arku Trainee to perform advanced production activities including material handling and machine operation.

You will use gauges, calipers, and rulers; position work pieces; and assist with quality checks and simple maintenance. This entry-level role requires reading English, measuring skills, and a willingness to learn in a heavy manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

• Reading and writing comprehension in English for work orders and safety manuals.
• Ability to read English and metric measurements with tape, caliper, gauges, or micrometer.
• Mechanical aptitude and arithmetic to convert decimals and fractions.
• Experience operating an overhead crane or forklift.
• Proficient with hand tools including grinders.
• Good manual dexterity and steady coordination.
• Computer literacy with Microsoft products.
• Well organized with attention to detail.
• Must pass a drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Position work pieces for processing.
• Operate machines to cut, burn, saw, grind, bend, punch, and press.
• Use gauges and rulers for measurement.
• Review blueprints/work orders to determine specs.
• Install and align punches or blades in machine bed.
• Set cutting speeds and diagnose issues.
• Perform in-process quality inspections for ISO locations.
• Coordinate material handling and crane operation.
• Perform basic preventive maintenance.
• Train less experienced workers or lead in absence.
• Mark identification on material and store for processing.
• Restock material and complete paperwork.
• Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

In a typical workday, employee is standing, walking, seeing, hearing, grasping, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, talking, lifting work pieces weighing up to forty (40) lbs. manually or by crane to work area and properly positioning it for processing the orders.

Working Conditions:

Employee will work in an open warehouse the majority (98%) of the time and will be exposed to some or all of the following working conditions: extreme heat and cold, noise, vibration, oils and atmospheric conditions such as dust, fumes and metallic particles. Employee will be exposed to the hazards of working with heavy machinery. Employee is required to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves and safety boots. The Company furnishes initial hard hat, gloves and safety glasses. The employee furnishes safety boots at own expense.

Metals USA has an immediate opening for a Arku Trainee in the Tuksa, OK location. The Arku Traineeperforms advanced production activities requiring a demonstrated high level of skill and proficiency in material handling, production processes and multiple machine operation acquired through extended experience and training.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Positions work pieces for processing
• Operates a combination of different machines to process work by cutting, burning, sawing, blasting, shearing, punching, grinding, bending, or pressing
• Uses gauges, calipers, squares, or rulers for measurement
• Determines processing specifications such as materials, cutting tools, location of cutting lines, dimensions, tolerances, and operational sequences by reviewing blueprints, work orders, tooling instructions or other written specifications
• Installs and aligns specified punches, cutting blades or other fixtures in machine bed using gauges, templates, feelers, shims, or hand tools
• Adjusts controls to set cutting speed, depth and feed rates; and diagnoses problems and makes necessary adjustments
• Performs quality control inspections on finished product; for ISO-certified locations, performs In Process Quality Inspections
• Coordinates and executes material handling of all inventories to be processed including operation of overhead crane
• Performs limited preventative maintenance, such as lubrication, cleaning and changing of parts
• May train less experienced workers and perform as lead in absence of group leader
• May mark identification on material/work pieces before processing
• May mark material after processing; store material for additional processing and/or shipping
• Restocks material
• Completes work order paperwork/documentation
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested
