Job summary

Metals USA has an immediate opening for an Arku Trainee in Tuksa, OK. The role performs advanced production activities requiring skill in material handling, production processes and multiple machine operation acquired through training and experience.

Duties include positioning work pieces, operating various machines, taking precise measurements, and coordinating inventory/material handling, including overhead crane use.

Qualifications

• Reading and writing comprehension in English to read work order instructions, safety, and policy manuals.
• Measuring skills to read English & Metric systems and use tape measure, caliper, gauges or micrometer.
• Mechanical aptitude and arithmetic to calculate decimals and fractions.
• Experience operating an overhead crane / forklift.
• Proficiency in the use of hand tools including grinder.
• Demonstrated manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multi-limb coordination.
• Computer literacy; Microsoft products.
• Must be organized with attention to detail.
• Candidate must pass a drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Positions work pieces for processing.
• Operates machines to process work by cutting, burning, sawing, blasting, shearing, punching, grinding, bending, or pressing.
• Uses gauges, calipers, squares, or rulers for measurement.
• Determines processing specs by reviewing blueprints, work orders, tooling instructions or other written specs.
• Installs and aligns punches or fixtures in machine bed using gauges and hand tools.
• Adjusts controls to set cutting speed, depth and feed rates; diagnoses problems and makes adjustments.
• Performs quality control inspections on finished product; in ISO locations, performs In Process Quality Inspections.
• Coordinates material handling of inventories including overhead crane operation.
• Performs limited preventative maintenance such as lubrication, cleaning and part changes.
• May train less experienced workers and lead in absence of group leader.
• Marks identification on material/work pieces; stores material for processing/shipping.
• Restocks material and completes work order paperwork/documentation.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

In a typical workday, employee is standing, walking, seeing, hearing, grasping, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, talking, lifting work pieces weighing up to forty (40) lbs. manually or by crane to work area and properly positioning it for processing the orders.

Working Conditions:

Employee will work in an open warehouse the majority (98%) of the time and will be exposed to some or all of the following working conditions: extreme heat and cold, noise, vibration, oils and atmospheric conditions such as dust, fumes and metallic particles. Employee will be exposed to the hazards of working with heavy machinery. Employee is required to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves and safety boots. The Company furnishes initial hard hat, gloves and safety glasses. The employee furnishes safety boots at own expense.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Positions work pieces for processing
• Operates a combination of different machines to process work by cutting, burning, sawing, blasting, shearing, punching, grinding, bending, or pressing
• Uses gauges, calipers, squares, or rulers for measurement
• Determines processing specifications such as materials, cutting tools, location of cutting lines, dimensions, tolerances, and operational sequences by reviewing blueprints, work orders, tooling instructions or other written specifications
• Installs and aligns specified punches, cutting blades or other fixtures in machine bed using gauges, templates, feelers, shims, or hand tools
• Adjusts controls to set cutting speed, depth and feed rates; and diagnoses problems and makes necessary adjustments
• Performs quality control inspections on finished product; for ISO-certified locations, performs In Process Quality Inspections
• Coordinates and executes material handling of all inventories to be processed including operation of overhead crane
• Performs limited preventative maintenance, such as lubrication, cleaning and changing of parts
• May train less experienced workers and perform as lead in absence of group leader
• May mark identification on material/work pieces before processing
• May mark material after processing; store material for additional processing and/or shipping
• Restocks material
• Completes work order paperwork/documentation
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested
