Job summary

Metals USA has an immediate opening for an Arku Trainee in Tuksa, OK. The Arku Trainee performs advanced production activities requiring a high level of skill in material handling, production processes and multiple machine operation acquired through experience and training.

Duties include positioning pieces, operating various machines, measuring with gauges, reviewing specifications, and performing quality checks.

Qualifications

• Reading and writing English proficiency to read work orders, safety manuals.
• Ability to read measurements in English and metric systems.
• Experience operating overhead crane / forklift.
• Proficiency with hand tools including grinder.
• Demonstrated manual dexterity and coordination.
• Must be able to pass a drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Position work pieces for processing.
• Operate machines to process work by cutting, burning, sawing, blasting, bending, or punching.
• Use gauges, calipers, rulers for measurement.
• Review blueprints and work orders to determine specs.
• Install and align punches or blades using gauges and hand tools.
• Adjust controls for speed, depth, and feed rates.
• Perform quality control inspections and coordinate material handling including overhead crane.
• Conduct basic preventative maintenance.
• Train less experienced workers and lead in absence.
• Restock material and complete paperwork.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Reading and writing comprehension in English (to read work order instructions, safety, and policy manuals)
• Measuring skills to read English & Metric systems and a tape measure, caliper, gauges, or micrometer
• Mechanical aptitude and arithmetic skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions
• Experience operating an overhead crane / forklift operator
• Must be proficient in the use of hand tools including grinder
• Demonstrated manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multi-limb coordination
• Computer Literacy; Microsoft Products
• Must be organized with attention to detail
• Candidate must be able to pass a drug screen

Physical Requirements:

In a typical workday, employee is standing, walking, seeing, hearing, grasping, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, talking, lifting work pieces weighing up to forty (40) lbs. manually or by crane to work area and properly positioning it for processing the orders.

Working Conditions:

Employee will work in an open warehouse the majority (98%) of the time and will be exposed to some or all of the following working conditions: extreme heat and cold, noise, vibration, oils and atmospheric conditions such as dust, fumes and metallic particles. Employee will be exposed to the hazards of working with heavy machinery. Employee is required to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves and safety boots. The Company furnishes initial hard hat, gloves and safety glasses. The employee furnishes safety boots at own expense.

The Arku Traineeperforms advanced production activities requiring a demonstrated high level of skill and proficiency in material handling, production processes and multiple machine operation acquired through extended experience and training.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Positions work pieces for processing
• Operates a combination of different machines to process work by cutting, burning, sawing, blasting, shearing, punching, grinding, bending, or pressing
• Uses gauges, calipers, squares, or rulers for measurement
• Determines processing specifications such as materials, cutting tools, location of cutting lines, dimensions, tolerances, and operational sequences by reviewing blueprints, work orders, tooling instructions or other written specifications
• Installs and aligns specified punches, cutting blades or other fixtures in machine bed using gauges, templates, feelers, shims, or hand tools
• Adjusts controls to set cutting speed, depth and feed rates; and diagnoses problems and makes necessary adjustments
• Performs quality control inspections on finished product; for ISO-certified locations, performs In Process Quality Inspections
• Coordinates and executes material handling of all inventories to be processed including operation of overhead crane
• Performs limited preventative maintenance, such as lubrication, cleaning and changing of parts
• May train less experienced workers and perform as lead in absence of group leader
• May mark identification on material/work pieces before processing
• May mark material after processing; store material for additional processing and/or shipping
• Restocks material
• Completes work order paperwork/documentation
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested
