Job summary

The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office (MCAO) is inviting law school graduates to participate in the Arizona Lawyer Apprentice Program (ALAP) as a Lawyer Apprentice in a Prosecutor I role for a 24-month supervisory period. Eligible applicants must meet Arizona Supreme Court Administrative Order 2024-148 and UBE scores, and pass background checks.

Hired candidates may continue in the Prosecutor I position if they obtain regular State Bar membership after the supervison.

Qualifications

  • Graduated from an ABA-accredited-law school is required.
  • ALAP applicant—must have already submitted application and seeking qualified employment.
  • Must be cleared through MCAO’s attorney background process including drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Discuss and present analyses of legal issues.
  • Conduct trials, present oral arguments, and cover court.
  • Interview witnesses regarding facts in the prosecution of cases.
  • Research and analyze legal issues using computerized legal research and hard copy tools.
  • Compose memoranda and pleadings regarding legal issues of concern.
  • Maintain professional relationships with victims, witnesses, law enforcement agencies, and community members.
  • Negotiate just resolutions of assigned cases and comply with victims' rights.

About the Position

The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office (MCAO) is now accepting applications from law school graduates interested in participating in the newly enacted Arizona Lawyer Apprentice Program (ALAP).


To be eligible for a position in this program, applicants must meet all conditions outlined in the Arizona Supreme Court’s Administrative Order no. 2024-148 which includes a score on the Uniform Bar Exam between 260 and 269.To practice law under the ALAP, the individual must work in an approved position, such as working for a public law practice, which includes the MCAO. To be eligible for full membership in the State Bar, a lawyer apprentice must successfully complete 24 months of employment with an eligible employer.


Applicants hired into this position will work as a lawyer apprentice in a full-time Prosecutor I position for a 24-month supervisory period. At the end of the supervisory period, employment will continue in that position if the lawyer apprentice successfully achieves regular membership in the State Bar of Arizona at the end of that period.

We Require
