Job summary

City of Cleveland is seeking an Airport Aircraft Rescue & Firefighting (ARFF) Assistant Chief to oversee daily ARFF operations, align with departmental priorities, and lead staff for efficient workflows. You will develop strategies, monitor performance, and collaborate with leadership to implement best practices.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree, 6 years of management, 4 years of leadership, and strong communication.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; substitution: 2 years of any equivalent education/experience for each missing year.
Six years of full-time management experience.
Four years of demonstrated leadership experience.
Strong critical thinking, analytical and communication skills.
Valid Ohio driver’s license.

Responsibilities

Responds to airport emergencies 24/7 and acts in the Chief’s absence as directed.
Review and update the Airport Emergency Plan per FAR Part 139 for incidents.
Interpret FAA/NFPA standards and implement related procedures.
Ensure ARFF operations compliance, training, and certification requirements.
Oversee hiring, development, and performance of staff; coach and counsel.
Manage budget, procurements, contracts, and reporting for the ARFF section.
Promote safe work environment and prepare accident/injury reports as needed.
