Job description

Ask any parent picking up their kid from after-school care, and they'll tell you it's not really about childcare at all — it's about who's leading the room. It's the adult who notices when a shy kid needs an invitation into the group, who turns a Tuesday afternoon into the best part of someone's day, and who a school starts to count on as a true partner. We're looking for that person to lead our school-based childcare and camp programs across multiple sites — someone ready to build something kids and families can count on, year after year.

Role at a Glance
  • Serving school-based sites across Hoover, Homewood, and Trussville — daily/weekly travel required
  • Reports to the Executive Director of School Based Programs
  • Full-time
What You'll Do

You'll plan, design, and run Afterschool Childcare and Summer Day Camp programming across 5–7 school-based sites, plus lead summer camp teams at one location and support School's Out Camps. You'll build a real pathway for kids to grow from child development programs into our programming for teens. Along the way, you'll keep a close eye on how programs are actually working — tracking participation, evaluating effectiveness, and adjusting as needed — while building relationships with community organizations that strengthen what you offer.

You'll lead people, too: recruiting, training, and supervising both paid staff and volunteers, running monthly team meetings, and giving the kind of feedback and coaching that helps people grow. You'll stay closely connected to the families you serve, building trust with students, parents, and school staff, and responding to concerns with care.

You'll help steer the budget for your sites — watching payroll and purchasing, recommending adjustments, and reporting on how things are tracking. And above all, you'll make child safety non-negotiable: following every YMCA policy on medical situations, discipline, emergencies, and child abuse prevention, and holding your team to the same standard — including proper screening, supervision, and training around abuse risk.

Why the Y
  • This job comes with a healthier life built in. You'll get medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus a Flexible Spending Account.
  • Company-paid life insurance and long-term disability.
  • A generous PTO plan, 10 paid holidays, 6 weeks of paid FMLA, and a week of grandparent leave.
  • A 403(b) plan with a 12% company contribution after 2 years.
  • Free Y membership for you and your household, free summer day camp and afterschool care, one free week of summer resident camp, and discounts on childcare, youth sports, swim lessons, and more.
