Xcel Energy, a major energy company, seeks an Area Vice President of Generation Project Development to oversee strategic planning, development, and execution of utility-scale renewables and gas projects. You will lead a multidisciplinary team, align with decarbonization goals, coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, and drive high-impact investments across multiple operating companies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical or financial field; MBA strongly desired.
• 10+ years in energy project development or related field, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
• Proven track record in utility-scale renewable and gas project execution.
• Strong regulatory, financial modeling, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and strategic planning abilities.
• Ability to interact with executive management and the Board.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute long-term strategies for renewable, gas generation and emerging technology development.
• Align project development with decarbonization goals and integrated resource plans.
• Evaluate geothermal, long-duration storage, nuclear and carbon-free fuels for integration into portfolios.
• Lead all phases of development including site selection, permitting, interconnection, engagement, and financial structuring.
• Coordinate with internal and external partners to ensure project alignment and delivery.
• Support diligence of project acquisitions and risk management for large-scale programs.
• Oversee bids for Operating Company Resource Plan RFPs.
• Build and lead multidisciplinary teams of project managers, engineers, schedulers and cost controllers.
