General Purpose

The Area Supervisor is a member of the Store Leadership responsible for a specific area of the Store and the general operations and supervision when acting as the Manager on Duty. Responsibilities include opening and closing the Store, supervising Associates, maintaining a friendly shopping environment, ensuring proper merchandise presentation, and keeping the work area clean. They also execute and supervise operational processes as needed.

Essential Functions

Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments:

  • Practice safe behaviors prioritizing safety at all times.
  • Maintain awareness on the sales floor to ensure a safe shopping environment, correcting or reporting unsafe conditions.
  • Ensure security of the building, including entrance/exit control, EAS device checks, Cash Office security, and handling of armored carrier pickups and registers.
  • Remove clutter and ensure clear egress to emergency exits.
  • Handle customer safety, accident prevention, reporting, and emergency procedures.
  • Test fire alarm systems as scheduled and respond to after-hours alarms when needed.

Customer Service:

  • Treat all Customers, Associates, and leaders with respect.
  • Show courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times. Recognize Associates through company programs.

Personal and Store Brand

  • Represent and support the Company brand always.
  • Maintain a professional appearance per Dress Code and ensure all Associates do the same.
  • Keep all store areas clean, well-maintained, and merchandised to standard.
  • Responsible for daily trash removal.

General Merchandising:

  • Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns are completed as per standards through teaching, assigning, and following up.
  • Assist with receiving merchandise and process it with urgency.
  • Manage receipt of inbound deliveries and maintain organized stockrooms.
  • Help deliver and place merchandise on the sales floor.
  • Secure and process back-stock according to policy.
  • Merchandise the department including back stock, reduce loss due to damage, and follow presentation guidelines.
  • Manage floor moves, signing, and re-wraps as needed.

Loss Prevention

  • Follow Loss Prevention programs, maintain a strong customer service presence, and engage with customers and associates to prevent loss.
  • Demonstrate integrity, safeguard confidential information, and ensure proper system maintenance.
  • Conduct package inspections and execute best practices to maximize productivity.

Front End Supervision and Operations:

  • Ensure front-end standards are met, manage customer wait times, and train associates on cash register and related procedures.
  • Control break schedules, maintain equipment, and ensure merchandise salability.

Fitting Rooms:

  • Maintain cleanliness and audit garment tags in the fitting rooms.
  • Ensure returned merchandise is properly processed and tagged.

Administrative Duties:

  • Manage cash pulls, bank deposits, payroll, and other administrative tasks as assigned by the Store Manager.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Excellent verbal communication, fluency in English.
  • Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with POS equipment, basic math skills.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends.

Physical Requirements & ADA:

Ability to use store equipment, stand/walk for up to 100%, bend, squat, lift over 25 lbs, and work with various supplies. Stockroom associates should be able to lift over 20 lbs regularly.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Retail Associates, Stockroom Leads (if applicable).
